LAST MINUTE PRESENT IDEAS..
Here are a few ideas for last minute
stocking fillers. Meant to knit
presents but never got round to it?
Give the yarn instead, with needles too
if appropriate. Get a booklet on
learning to knit for a child and add a
couple of balls of yarn and some
interesting needles.
Or quickly knit up some of Wendy's
lovely Cartoon Knit toys, Victoria
Plum, the Pink Panther, or lotu of
others.

LAST MINUTE PRESENT IDEAS...
Childrens knitted squares can make
lavender bags for Gran, or even
bedsocks if the squares are ambitious
and squashy enough.
Simply douale squares and sew up both
ends and along half the long edge. /r
knit multi striped mittens for the
snow, no one can have too many, theyWre
always getting lost, or small bears or
dolls clothes.
A gorgeous doll's wardrobe can be made
and given in a cardboard "chest! fgr a
fraction of the cost of a bought one.

LOOKING AT THE SALES...
December has long been recognised as
the month when very few people do any
sewing.
But the moment that Christmas is over
and the holiday brochures come out,
the dressmaker is in action.
The ready-made shops have already
ordered their stocks for spring and
summer 1986, and the fabric left over
from the manufacturers will have been
sold to the merchants who supply many
of the market traders.

LOOKING AT THE SALES..
So, whilst you are buying youq holly
and mistletoe take a look at the fabric
stalls on the markets and pick up some
bargain lengths ready for the "off"
with the sewing machine.
A simple rule for buying fabric, with
no pattern in mind, is to get TWICE
your length (plus) hem PLUS the length
of any sleeve that you might use. You
can then always make something.
In the shops this is the time for a
"touch of the luxuries" when the pure
silks, and other expensive fabrics are
greatly reduced, so treat youquelf to
some glamour for 1986. more follows >
