A Bun In The Oven (Rough Trade)
by PRINCESS TINYMEAT
BINTTII has a fine singing stzle. Like
GREEN with a hangover. The music is a
wash of droning guitars, drowned in
reverberation. This puts THE JESUS AND
MARY CHAIN into the BUCKS FIZZ league,
with its lack of "conventional"
production and the absence of any hard
edge to the beat. Vocals are used
sparingly, in fact everything is,
except distortion. Sticking my neck
out, I'd say this might escape the
Network Chart.

Whistling in the Dark (Rough Trade)
by EASTERHOUSE
An infectious and powerfully perfgrmed
song from this Manchester band. It's a
call to the workers of Britain to make
good use of what was learnt during the
Miners Strike. And what was learnt?
EASTERHOUSE believe we have learnt
that it was the main offensive in a
Tory class war and that the wgrkers
will know better next time. In realitz,
what's likely to be learnt is merely a
fear of striking. They gloomily suggest
"the Tories have no option" and blame
a limp Labour Party. So who's whistling
in the dark? (Clive Bull) more >
