TOKYO Widespread buying pushed prices
higher and for the third successive
session the market reached a new recgrd
Machineries set the pace for the rise,
but other sectors joined in and by the
close the Dow average was at 13,447.91,
up 43.61, and the TSE 1,075.67, up 5.44
HONG KONG Prices generally closed
higher after making a strong start and
advancing steadily through the morning
but meeting some profit-taking later.
This trimmed the day's best gains but
still left the Hang Seng index to close
5.54 better at 1,783.08. >>>>>

SYDNEY The market marked time ahead of
news of a revision of Mr Robert Holmes
a' Court's bid for BHP, but the changed
terms still left the stock lower.
The Bell companies both improved though
and other industrials also turned
better so that by the close the All-
Ordinaries index was up 1.4 at 1048.5.
SINGAPORE The market closed lower after
a session which saw small-time traders
taking profits from the recent string
of rises. Falls well outnumbered gains
and the All-Share fell 1.46 to 225.70.
JO'BURG Gold shares opened slightly
better but trade was thin and cautious.
