FROM MANCHESTER WITH LOVE
Last weekend's From Manchester With
Love concert in Liverpool was the
biggest live concert there for many a
year; NEW ORDER, THE FALL and THE
SMITHS played a benefit show to raise
money for the City Councillors' legal
costs in their High Court appeal
against surcharge.
Always unpredictable, NEW ORDER took to
the stage first, despite being arguably
the biggest name on the bill ...

FROM MANCHESTER WITH LOVE
With a precise version of "The Perfect
Kiss" and a ragged "Temptation", NEW
ORDER showed their progression into a
confident and sharp synth-disco outfit
from their dark days as college
darlings, JOY DIVISION.
Slices of big bad rock guitar figure
strongly in their newer material and on
their surprise version of "Love Will

FROM MANCHESTER WITH LOVE
THE SMITHS undeniably stole the show.
The material from the up-coming album
"The Queen Is Dead" is a musical leap
forward from "Meat Is Murder", and live
they are simply stunning.
That quiet wimp you see on Top of The
Pops is a very different MORRISEY on
stage, whirling like a melodramatic
dervish and waving an accusatory finger
on the single "Big Mouth Strikes Again"
Musically, one doozy of an evening. But
who was that DEREK HATTON bloke on
stage? more follows >
