He's been in films, books, posters, on
record, video... and yet you'd be
forgiven for saying "PAUL who"?
With a sense of understatement PAUL
admits to being the "quietest member"
of THE SEX PISTOLS. It wasn't that he
didn't join in, just that "the other
three characters, well..." he laughs,
"as far as madness goes they were top
of the list". After his time with the
PISTOLS and THE PROFESSIONALS he'd
"had enough, that was it" and opted out
for two years.

The legacy of THE SEX PIST/LS isn't
something that'll easily be forgotten:
"I don't look back on those days too
often, but it seems everyone else is at
the moment. It's ten years on. You get
a bit nostalgic about it. It was good.
What the PISTOLS achieved is still
going on now".
And what does PAUL think punk achieved?
"It did make people think. It was an
attitude. And I reckon that this year
will be the year when things will
change again."

PAUL's new band CHIEFS OF RELIEF are
about to tour. They've had one fairly
successful single, but he has to admit
"it's like starting all over."
With PAUL in THE CHIEFS OF RELIEF is
MATTHEW ASHMAN, formerly of BOW WOW
WOW. And what do the two have in
common? MALCOLM McLAREN of course.
"Yes, we do swap stories. Mostly very
amusing ones. He was a good artistic
manager - a terrible business manager.
Without a doubt his talent is for

PAUL was surprised when I showed him
the latest book to celebrate the SEX
PISTOLS. It's called REBEL ROCK, and as
the drummer he features quite heavily.
"It's another in a long line of people
cashing in. After all this time it's
pretty amazing. There's bootleg albums
coming out all over the place.
I haven't seen nothing out of it. Mayae
we'll be able to do something about it
now that we've got the court case

SPUTNIK'S CHART ATTACK
The new Network Chart has put SIGUE
SIGUE SPUTNIK's debut single "Love
Missile" straight into the No.3
position. While BILLY OCEAN holds on to
the No.1 spot, DIANA ROSS has moved up
to No.2 and SHAKIN STEVENS is at No.12.
Add to that SU POLLARD's "Starting
Together" rising astonishingly to No.7
- despite a lack of airplay - and one
wonders if anybody knows where the
music industry is headed ...
