Heartache No 9 by HOT CHOCOLATE (RAK)
Those proven masters of the hit single
are beginning to show disturbing signs
of senility.
'Heartache No 9' must be their worst
single in ages. ERROL BROWN's voice
remains as polished as his bald bonce,
but he's fighting a losing battle
with a tune bereft of any real melody
and repetitious to the point of nausea.
HOT CHOCOLATE are almost as vital a
part of our pop heritage as NANA
MOUSKOURI (!). I would welcome a return
to form...

The Distance Between (WEA)
by MARSHALL CRENSHAW
This sounded sweet three months ago
(on Marshall's 'Downtown' album) and
sounds still sweeter now.
A perfectly constructed love song with
Crenshaw's best, laziest vocal and
tasteful production courtesy of the
excellent T-BONE BURNETT.
The obvious single choice from the
superb 'Downtown', and a monster hit
if there's justice. DJ's wake up!
Jangly guitars have never sounded so
good. Rebecca Storm >

Mr Love by REBECCA STORM (Columbia)
A reviewer-shamed-by-preconceptions
situation.
The soundtrack to a new film comedy, I
expected to hate this. Mistake. In line
with the mood of the film (apparently),
it is a starry-eyed and whimsical slice
of romance which works perfectly.
REBECCA STORM's voice couldn't be
sweeter,and WILLY RUSSELL's arrangement
is imaginative and haunting.
On this particular dreary winter
afternoon, 'Mr Love' provided a much-
needed warm glow... (Chris Fuller)
