Made by Anglia (Survival) TV and the Oxford Scientific Film unit, each film reveals in detail how life goes on in various small worlds. Next Sunday the series will continue with It's A Frog's Life, which shows that frogs and toads are not merely slimy things that go jump in the night. In fact, frogs and toads are amongst evolution's great successes, having flourished on earth for over a hundred million years! More >

And the series concludes with Flights of Fancy. No, this isn't a film about pigeons, but one showing how insects choose and court their mates. From ugly dung flies, to elegant Tiger moths, all insects follow an elaborate pattern of courtship, with each species having its own, unique flourishes.  More in a moment 

From March through to the end of April the emphasis will be on the natural world. Patterns of Life will be followed by films from all over the wgrld, such as The Lords Of Hokkaido, portraying the changing seasons in Northern Japan and the lives of a family of foxes. In May the emphasis will switch to a series on the Crisis In Africa.  More in a moment 

From April 10 there'll be a new series called Worldwise Reports which will be packed with information on conservation and environmental issues. This weekly magazine will be concerned with the threats to the environment, highlighting the practical action that can be taken to thwart the dangers. And if you've ever wondered what the destruction of a tropical forest has got to do with you, then tune in, as the series will show you why and how.  More in a moment 

If you did then you may just remember the institution of the Cow Pat Awards. These were granted to any individual, authority or company who had shown an outstanding aptitude for desecrating the countryside, and Worldwise Reports will continue to award them. But, just to show the picture isn't all black, there'll be the odd Cowslip Award too, for those who've shown they care. And Gerald Durrell has been behind the Iron Curtain to film in some of the places never seen before on western TV, from the deserts in the south to the snowy wastes of the north. Durrell in Russia begins on Sunday April 13 at 4.45pm - perfect teatime viewing.
