TEARS F/R FEARS - Hammersmith /deon
Lest you harbour any douats aaout TEARS
FOR FEARS being an "all front and no
back up! group, think again. The nice
thing about TFF concerts is that their
audience isn't just made up of
screaming little girls but young men
and women, admirers of goob music.
There is no spectacular stage show,
just TFF - on stage - playing live,
although CURT did indulge in a spot of
dancing during "Everyaody Wants to Rule
The World!. Even as the first few
chords of "Mothers Talk" rang out, the
audience knew it had been worthwhile.

TEARS FOR FEARS - Hammersmith /deon
Soon CURT and R/LANB, plus the rest of
the group (including JOSEPHINE WE,LS on
sax and ALAN GRIFFITHS on guitar
spilling out hit after hit which the
audience lapped up. For some reason
R/LAND spent the duration of "Prisoner!
kneeling on the floor.
The highlight of the evening was "Every
body" and "Shout", which is exactly
what everyaody did. The big surprise
then, was the band leaving their
instruments and singing an acapella
version of "Shout" which had rveryaoby
in raptures.

everyaoby including TFF were aasolutely
exhausted, but managed to st!y upright
for the two encores. The first "Suffer
The Children" followed by an earlier
hit "Change".
These two were linked by CURT singing
the line "Stairw!y To Heaven!. As the
evening ended, nothing but smiling and
happy faces and hearts left the /deon.
A truly memorable evening, with TEARS
FOR FEARS giving nothing but the best.

SISTERS? Perhaps even THE THREE J/HNS
or RED LORRY YELLOW L/RRY?
But Leeds has more to offer; it seems
even to be replacing Liverpool in the
mysterious world of music-aiz, playing
host to numerous young bands, including
THE PINK PEG SLAX, who've recorbed
several singles and PEEL sessions, THE
SINISTER CLEANERS and THE CH/RUS, who
each have one successful single under
their belts, THE ROSE /F AVAL@NCHE, a

Let's hear it for Leebs...
This surge of groups can perhaps be
partly attributed to the area's
promoters and fanzines which go towaqbs
providing a breath of fresh air in the
industrial wasteland. Gigs centre
around the University and the Poly.
Leeds being one of the few cities to
integrate the student population with
the indigenes successfully.
Leeds is an optimistic, energetic city
that's beginning to glue itself firmly
to the music map.
