Pssst! Want 443 stitch patterns in one book? Then you need Shelagh Hollingworth's Knitted Stitch Patterns by Batsford at £12.50. Each one is illustrated by rather fuzzy photography in black and white only. A useful modern reference work bringing together lots of patterns, but lacking a decent index. A quicky for supermarket shoppers is Family Circle's 60 Knitting Tips at 35p A colourful little book full of really useful hints and explanations. I am getting a lot of letters asking me about the making of circular skirts. You don't need a paterrn - you can make your own: 1. Take your waist size. This is the circumference of the circle which you will need to have. Try to remember youq maths or get someone to work out the radius for you. 2. Take a big sheet of paper and mark the centre of it. 3. Make this point the centre of the measurement, draw your waist line as a circle. Home File Index 480 What's New 481

Cut the circle out. 5. Fold the circle in half, then a quarter, then an eigth. 6. Measure the length you require ( you will only need a 1cm hem), from the edge of your waistline. You might need to put seams in the skirt somewhere to economise on fabric, place them at the side or centre front and back. After stitching, let the skirt hang for a day or two BEFORE attempting to level the hem. more follows > Home File Index 480 What's New 481
