What a week. The previous weekend saw an attempt to install SUSE 7 (from a Linux Format cover CD) on to a 486 which had a CD drive that didn't work. Attempts to try and read the CD across the network came up against various problems such as dodgy network connections and a need for the CD drive to be drive D:. In the end a CD drive from another computer was placed inside and all messing about with loadlin was thrown away in favour of floppy boot disks.

On the Sunday hurried attempts to get SUCS leaflets ready for the freshers fair took place. An eight hour period without food resulted in the new booklets, tiredness and a late night photocopying session.

On Monday disaster hit when I locked myself out of my room on the day I had to enrol to university. What I initially thought would be a half hour wait for the spare key to turn up turned into a multi hour nightmare when I found out that my room didn't have a spare key. It looks like what had happened was that someone had thought that their room key didn't work and so had a copy made. This extra copy was put on the to the spare set and my room's spare key was accidently taken off the set. In the end I was fortunate enough to have a locksmith pick the lock to let me back into the room. And all I had to wear during the incident was a bath robe.
